  1. Your comments about telephone operators reminded me of one of my father’s stories of when he was little. He was born in 1924, the 8th of 9 children. His father worked in New York City at the Waldorf-Astoria and came home on his days off. He knew his mother used the phone to talk to his father so he’d often run to the phone and cry, “Daddy, they’re being mean to me!” The operator would call his mother and ask her to keep her little boy off the phone.
